Every year Americans celebrate Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday in November.
On Thanksgiving Day families and friends get together and offer thanks and eat a special meal. The main dish is usually turkey. Mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie or casseroles are also typical of this festivity.
It all started in 1621, when the Pilgrim Fathers had a meal to thank God and the Native Americans for teaching them how to grow crops in the New World.
